Tournament Tumult: Reorganization of the FFG Tournament Structure

When I began playing Star Wars: Destiny, the tournament circuit was structured as (from smallest to largest) Quarter, Store, Regional, National, and World Championships. This hierarchical structure allowed you to choose the level of competition in which to participate. After just a year, Galactic Qualifiers (GQ) were introduced, disrupting the balance, but not in an unwelcome way. Instead of competing for position, you competed for prize support. For each victory you were awarded a certain number of prize tickets, with bonuses being earned for those finishing in the top. The only flaw of the GQ structure was the elimination of players after two losses, which negatively impacted morale.

Balance of the Force – Episode III: Order Has Been Restored to the Galaxy

Having recently competed in the Malmö GQ, there was little surprise regarding the balance of Snoke (WF4), Watto (CV38), and Force Storm (CV14). For Snoke and Watto, the consistency with which they were able to play the most powerful supports in the game was undeniably broken. Many players at the Malmö GQ recognized this and brought a variation of the Snoke/Watto/First Order Stormtrooper (CV20) deck. Many players also brought Palpatine (CV2)/Wat Tambor (CV22) to take advantage of the similarly consistent Force Storm (CV14). I myself fell victim to the Force Storm “one-turn-kill” at the GQ.

The Growth of the Ranks

The Chance Cube is excited to announce an expansion in our blog. We used to be quite active article writers, but as time went on and things morphed and changed, our content output changed with it.

However, we are getting back to basics and we’ve also identified a gap in the larger content market… the casual perspective. We have a lot of different creative ideas in the works and hope to bring something special to our output while considering this direction.
