Things to Come

I Love You….I Know

It is strange to be in the midst of Prime Season and have such “apathy” for our game. We, as players, are frustrated about the lack of anything exciting on the horizon. How do we get over the doldrums of this?

When I look at this, from the Star Wars point of view, it feels as if we have just been frozen in carbonite. You remember the scene – that gripping “I Love You… I Know.” What we have here is the same situation.

We are, to FFG, the Prized Possession (AW102). They know that they have us. We are salivating for the new set. It is that cockiness that allows them to say “I Know” when we declare our love for the game.

Just like Jabba the Hutt, FFG likes keeping us on display. They view us as important-but they also understand that when the new product(s) hit the spike in interest will grow. The question that we have to ask ourselves is, “is this FFG’s doing or is there another power that affects the time line?”

Why The Wait Bro?

We are On The Hunt (AW026) for new and exciting things to play. The meta is becoming stale with Droids. They are not “dominant” but over the past weeks of Primes, Droids are very prominent. It is hard to hunt down the “droid killer” with the cards we have now. Like everyone else, I want the new set to drop yesterday.

Because of this desire, I have to ask – why the wait? This game has either really bad luck with shipping or they are still using the Mayan Calendar showing the world’s end. I have often felt that the dropping of the sets were more pushed by what FFG is told to by the people at Disney. When we ask why are the sets not scheduled better, maybe the real people we should ask are the people at Disney.

I think, lurking in the shadows, FFG was told that they had to wait to release the next set. The wait is likely because of the new movie and the launch of Disney+. Am I certain of this? Of course not. But it is my own little conspiracy theory. What if some of the cards from Covert Mission would have spoiled the upcoming movie or The Mandalorian? Disney would not have been happy about that so they said wait.

Back-to-Back Sets

The problem I have is, once again we will be hit with a quick turn-around on sets. If Covert Missions comes out in January, when will the next starter set come out? We could end up getting Covert Missions in January, then in February get the next block put out.

“What’s the problem with that?” I hear you clucking big chicken, but the problem is we are going to end up in the same situation. Our meta will never be able to become acclimated to the next set because we already know that the next block is coming. Once that block starts we lose the Legacies block.

There needs to be some sort of consistency for the dropping of sets. If there is one thing I would implore FFG to do it would be to come up with a standard release schedule.

Planning Creates Desire

The reason that Magic: The Gathering is so hot is because the players know what is coming and when. The idea that they devote weekends to the release of their material is the type of mindset we should have. Can you imagine playing in three different release parties of the next set of Star Wars:Destiny? Playing regular, then later playing in Alliances, and then back to regular. This can be done if we knew the dates and could plan them in advance.

The Chance Cube Universe, I know that news is slow and I am probably wrong, but think about it. How many of you would love to have what Magic has at your FLGS. The excitement and the building of the community that could take place. So because of that, I call upon FFG to invest in this idea. Come up with a way to make our own Launch Weekends. Allow the FLGS to be able to advertise for upcoming product drops by actually having a timetable in place.

Until next time, and as always Universe: May you always roll what you need and need what you roll.
