Is There Hope?

The New Set

So Spark of Hope dropped and so did all of our bank accounts. Getting out there and cracking packs to find the best combos we can, for the money we have to spend. I am in the minority here, I am guessing, as I have only opened 1 booster box.

How can I be a credible writer if I haven’t even opened multiple boxes? Easy, I do what I stated in an earlier article-I read. We have some great writers here at The Chance Cube. I hope that you are reading us all, because the insight that you get will help you going forward.

The big thing that I have learned so far is that Droids will inherit the earth. This is like the Will Smith movie I, Robot. We are living in their world now, so we may as well get happy about it. The Dynamic Duo is going to cause some headaches (less since FFG’s announcement yesterday)

C-3P0 (SH77) and R2-D2 (SH56) finally get their day in the sun. Not only are they characters, but they are really good characters. They are the first tandem that thematically play off each other well. The back and forth that those two have can be quite devastating if left alone. It is not very often that you go after “Support Characters” first but these two are unlike any others we have run into. Put them together with elite Chief Chirpa (SH93) and you have a four-die start and 4 characters (thanks to the Freewok-credit to Parker Simpson) a life total of 27. Oh, and did I forget to mention you can run Fateful Companions (SH111)? Yeah that is sick.

Solo sighting

Another thing that I am excited for is the new version of Han Solo (SH96). This is his 4th reboot-only 2 more and he will receive a free toaster. Solos sides are good, but the exciting part is to actually be able to pair him with the beast. Not that we couldn’t before, but now they have chemistry together. They play off each other in a way that they should have been all along. Chewbacca (CV88) being the meat shield for Han and the ability of these two riding off on the Millennium Falcon (LG52) makes this match even more enticing.

Rey-Lo or Ky-Rey?

There they are. Bodies laying in a heap and only the two of them left standing. How could two sworn enemies work together? For the movie – it was an epic scene when they worked together. For the game, I believe there is hope it will be even better.

For the first time, outside of Draft or – uh, well, cheating – you can play a Villain and a Hero together. Think about this, you can have all the blue cards at your fingertips. You can play Palpatine’s Lightsaber (CV16) and Yoda’s Lightsaber (SH74). Imagine if Kylo Ren (SH2) is wielding Yoda’s saber in one hand and Maul’s Lightsaber (LG8) in the other. What if Rey (SH57) was able to have have Force Storm (CV14) and Darth Vader’s Lightsaber (AG16) working for her? That would make for some gruesome die rolls.

This is the card that makes it possible. Temporary Truce (SH119). Sure you can’t use any Grey cards but honestly, do you need them? Having these two heavy hitters and the countless number of possible upgrades to place on them? This is exactly the type of pairing that will make people line up to play.

Thank You FFG

We must look at what has been given to us to play and be grateful. Has FFG made mistakes, well yes-but they have learned from them. By learning they have put this game in a good place. People are playing and having a fun time. FFG sees that, and listens. They heard the possibility of Negative Play and they addressed it. Yesterday (as of me writing this article) 7/8 FFG created the Restricted list. By doing this it shows they are willing to make changes to help the experience of Star Wars: Destiny more enjoyable.

You see, this game is also a “life-style.” Most of the people that play it, if not all, know the lore of the Star Wars movies. When we see a set drop we are looking for ways that will make it work, like in those movies. Being able to us dips like these listed is what makes us happy. It will also help those getting into the game more excited, because they are playing characters that they know and are invested. The Chance Cube Universe, join me in telling FFG that they are on the right track. Lift your lightsabers in a salute and hopefully they will continue to build character pairings like this.
