You’ve Been Drafted…

With the release of Spark of Hope in the last few weeks, many of us have done at least one session of draft. I’ve seen a few random questions on the local Facebook page and a few other places, so I thought I’d do a quick write-up on draft.

Frenemies?

The good thing about draft is it’s one of the few times you will be able to use both Hero and Villain cards. The other good thing is that you will usually come away with at least one legendary card. I was lucky and got two (R2-D2 and Pulse Cannon) which is pretty awesome.

Do or Do Not

The bad is on-the-fly deck construction isn’t really great for most of us. I didn’t have time to familiarize myself with my cards as I had just gotten them. I ended up losing all three of my games. Some was bad rolls and some was not being familiar with how to make the cards work to my advantage. Also, I had attempted a mono-Blue deck at one point, but didn’t have the minimum amount of cards to make a deck ( I was told 20 is the minimum in draft but haven’t confirmed that) so I had to go back to the drawing board. [Editor’s Note: In draft, deck size can be anywhere between 20 and 30 cards.]

One question I saw recently was someone asked if the draft kit had to be purchased each time, and the answer is no. Now, two copies of it is nice to have for deck building, only one copy is used for drafting.

How has your experience been with drafting with Spark of Hope? Do you have any great advice to impart to the rest of us who struggle with it?

Until next time…
