I Am Your Father

Today being Father’s Day and thinking about the base of the deck I will be playing, let’s talk about my favorite father figure, Darth Vader – Terror to Behold (AG1).

Even after the release of Convergence, this card still stands up to the test of time. His sides are still some of the best of any. Add his lightsaber and he’s nearly unbeatable. If you play him right. Which I didn’t the one time I was able to play after I acquired my second copy of him.

I admit that I netdeck and did for my Vader deck where he’s paired with First Order Stormtrooper (CV20) for his “little” to pair up with.

A couple of things I don’t like, now that I’ve played it. First is that Vader’s Fist (AG13) costs too much for this deck as it’s not a big resource generator. The other is that Fresh Supplies (CV126) and Seize the Day (CV130) are dependent on control of the battlefield. If you get poor rolls in the initial roll-off (which I often do) then it’s just taking up space.

Just What I Always Wanted

My first game I lost playing to Palp/Watto. I focused too much on Watto (CV38) (this was before he got the errata) and my opponent was buying up Force Abilities to play on Palp so he was pretty strong and took me down by round two.

My second match was against a newer player trying a three-wide clone with Rex (WF74), Cody (AG73) and Clone Trooper (LG38). I was able to get my saber early and use the fighting pit to my advantage. Once I played Fear and Dead Men (AG7), it was pretty much over.

My last match was a mostly mirror match, but he was able to get out Riot Shield (CV140) and Meditation Chamber (AG10) to his advantage. So I lost. My average is 1-2.

Next time, I’ll write up my games at my local tournament from Friday.

Until next time…
