Star Wars: Destiny Tabletop Simulator League Match Results (Part 2)

This is a continuation of me talking about the games I played in Star Wars: Destiny Tabletop Simulator League.

My fourth set of matches were against PewPewHan, who is from England.  Both games were very, very quick.  He only had one deck saved on Tabletop Simulator, the dreaded eDarth Vader (AW 10)/Tusken Raider (AW 22).  The first match was a mirror match with my Vader/Raider combo.  I got very, very lucky the first game with my opening hand as well as getting great dice rolls.  The match lasted 2 rounds, as I had already taken down his Darth Vader.  At that point, given that he didn’t have anything going for him, he conceded.  He made the right move.  Having no upgrades on his Tusken Raider, and a couple of good upgrades on my cards, it was only a matter of time before his Tusken Raider was defeated as well.

I changed up my deck for the second game to a eGeneral Grievous (AW 3)/Jango Fett (AW 21), the goal being able to deal just as much damage, and steal upgrades when a character is defeated.  That, and truthfully I don’t like mirror matches, and I also wanted more experience playing against the Vader/Raider agro build.  I have played this deck to moderate success in real life, and hoped to be lucky during this match.  And, while I did get a few nice upgrades out like a Gaffi Stick (AW 25) and Jetpack (AW 66), my dice manipulation cards didn’t show up, so it was a losing battle.  General Grievous died quickly, and, like my opponent, I conceded at that point.  I had done only a couple of damage to his Darth Vader.

We did play a third game, just for fun, because the first two games only took a couple of minutes.  This match I took my favorite deck, my tried and true eJabba the Hutt (AW20) and eJango Fett.  I played this deck because both in the league as well as in real life, this is my go to deck, and I need some more help in being able to topple the Vader/Raider combo with it.  This was a much, much better fight (and closer fight) for both sides.  While I still lost, I made a good showing of myself.  And it wasn’t one thing that made me lose, it was a combination of things.  I could have discarded different cards when he activated Darth Vader.  I could have had better card draws and better dice rolls.  But, mostly, it came down to the fact that I should have put an upgrade or two on Jabba that allowed me to deal damage with him when Jango was defeated.

League Record 2-1-1

So, with just 3 opponents left to play, I am doing well on time to complete the games.  I will say that the time I have spent playing in real life had greatly enhanced my knowledge of the game and how it is played.  Not to mention all the time tweaking and playtesting decks.  The league has been run very well at this point.  The organizers did a great job in putting pods together and keeping players together based on their time zone and play time(s).  The only thing I would have done different is held off on the league until after the Holidays, as people are spending the time with family, and it gives the players a bit of time to play in real life, so we all can learn the rules and nuances of the game.  Otherwise, this is a very well run league, and the creators should be very proud of themselves.

It may not be the most “optimized”, but it is one of the decks I play in real life, so it stays the same. That way I get more practice with it. And, honestly, once you get a Holdout Blaster or Flame Thrower on Jabba the deck runs very well, as Jango is usually the first target (which is the correct choice).
