Beginners Guide to Destiny Part IV: Resource Curve

So, you have decided on your strategy, characters, and battleground.  The next thing to talk about  is your draw deck itself, what Upgrades, Supports, and Events you want to include.  However, before we do so we need to cover an important topic, Resource Curve.  Resource Curve is also be called Mana Curve in Magic: The Gathering.  What it means, simply, is having a balance of different costs of cards so you have the ability to be able to draw a playable costed card (or cards) each turn.  This is a game theory and concept that is very important in this game.

For Star Wars: Destiny, starting resources each turn are fixed.  You receive two resources each turn to do what you want.  You are able to roll into more resources each turn, but using dice this way takes away from their other potential abilities, like dealing damage or activating specials.  Yes, there are many cases where using your dice to obtain more resources is a good thing.  You don’t want to wait 3 turns after playing Crime Lord (AW 23) in order to be able to pay for its special ability.

Also, you don’t want to load up your deck with 3+ cost upgrades, events, and supports.  You will be unable to play anything each turn unless you roll more resources, which some decks are poorly designed to do.  You need to strike a balance.  There is a reason cards have such variable costs in the game, which I will explain in much greater detail in Part V of this series.  Finally, remember that you can replace upgrades by only paying the difference in cost.

Now, yes, with only 1 set released your options are limited, but remember that as new sets are released, you have much greater options available.
