Content Creators Corner: Star Wars Destiny Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame Beginning

Sometimes Content Creators appear overnight. That is what happened with the new Star Wars: Destiny Hall of Fame. I reached out and talked with Bill Jolley, the person behind this new Facebook site.

Bill felt that this was a good way to pay tribute to the early Content Creators. The idea of getting back to the beginning of this game was the main idea of this site. “I give a tremendous amount of credit to the early Content Creators for the success of this game.”

Bill also felt the importance of Content Creators, “All successful collectible card games (CCGs) in our modern era owe their success to the Content Creators who had built enthusiasm for their product and influenced the gaming community.”

“Simply put, someone needed to get the word out.” No truer statement was said. There are many games that die on the vine because CCs didn’t find joy in playing them. With this channel, you will have the ability to see those beginning streams-and the struggles that were worked through with the help of the CCs of that time.

CCs Hook You

“In the case of Destiny, I had already determined I was not going to buy this game. I was already invested in Dice Masters and I had no intention of diverting my funds to another collectible game. But I was already a Star Wars fan. The Decipher Star Wars CCG was my favorite all-time game. I was already playing a dice-and-card game. And I was listening to Content Creators. So, things lined up perfectly. I was hooked. But that would never have happened, if the Content Creators didn’t speak so favorably about this game.”

I asked him about the history of the game in concern with the CCs and he said: “without the Content Creators behind it, this game would have failed like so many before it. There would be no history.” I wanted to know what CCs did he follow in the beginning. “I watched Team Covenant explain very enthusiastically how to play Star Wars: Destiny. I listened to Knights of Ren, The Jedi Trials and The Chance Cube. They were both great. But Tiny Grimes was the guy that pulled me in. If I had to blame one person, it’s him. That guy should sell cars, or insurance.”

You Can Teach Padawans with Old Lessons

Looking back at some of the videos that are posted, I wondered if a new player could actually learn from these. The game has come so far and so much is different. So is this site for nostalgia, or can we direct our pupils to this place where the Books of Wisdom reside?

“My answer is absolutely yes!” Bill answered to this dilemma. “The folks that made those early videos and podcasts were seasoned gamers long before Star Wars: Destiny. They taught us how to analyze the game components and strategies on a very deep level. They presented it in an entertaining manner. Sure, the game has changed some. But the fundamentals have not. You can still learn so much from the way they approach the game. And you might even stumble upon something that had long been forgotten.”

“My only goals right now are to gather historical pieces of Star Wars: Destiny in one convenient place. I want to give lovers of this game a place to ‘Walk down memory lane.’ A place to visit.”

“And, in my own way, give thanks to those who have worked so hard to pave the way for Destiny to flourish in the gaming community. I have never thought of myself as a Content Creator. It has just been fun to sit back and watch others in their craft.”

Who would be the first inductees

In a world where we have come so far, to take a time to look back is sometimes necessary. I would urge you to go check out this Facebook site. It is already gotten some great old videos and pictures and articles from the early days of Star Wars: Destiny.

And when you go by, let Billy know who you think should be the first person, group, content creator or developer that should be inducted into the Star Wars: Destiny Hall of Fame. Maybe, The Chance Cube Universe, someday soon we could watch as the first class of the Hall of Fame gets inducted. Until next time – Enjoy the Game, the Community, and Each Other.
