Card Analysis: Wat Tambor (CV022)

Convergence has brought a lot of really good cards to play. When looking at characters, especially support characters, the best by far is Wat Tambor.

Introduction

Wat Tambor is a Red Villain character. He can be played with one die at 9 points or elite at 12. He has a Power Action that allows you to pay for a support from your hand. Then roll that die into your pool without exhausting the support. This power action has great potential, giving you two activations of a powerful support.

Design Notes

Wat can be a devastating card in the early game. With a power action like his, you could conceivably have a big damage turn round 1. With the point cost being low, Wat can pair with any color, getting access to multiple supports. Not known for brute strength, the power of Wat lies in the other sides of his die. One Indirect is not his best side, but follow that up with a 1-Focus, 2-Focus, and two single resources and his dice are well worth the points.

Artwork/Lore

Wat came to us from the prequel trilogies. He was part of the separatists and a major player with the droid armies. He was a tactical person and relied on the might of others to push his views forward. This card does justice to the way that he was portrayed in the movies.

Things to Consider

I could see Wat being paired with any deck that is heavy in supports. Imagine rolling out Planetary Bombardment (WF33) twice in a single turn. Then using his focus side to get the 7 indirect damage off, not once but twice. 14-damage swings are game changing.

Wat could also pair well with an evil Sith like Palpatine (CV2). Palpatine needs a good match so this would be a four die start. On top of that you are talking about focuses forever. Sure, the revision to Force Storm (CV14) was a big change, but using those focus dice to get the 3-Ranged or the 4-Indirect after using the Special once in the first round is heavy.

In short, for a support character, Wat Tambor can help carry a team to victory. He has everything you could want in a potential match. The belief that behind every good man is a better women is true; however, it should also be said-behind every great villain deck is WAT TAMBOR!!
