Card Analysis: Sly Moore (CV004)

As far as villain blue support characters go, Snoke is still on top, but if you need someone with a bit less cost, don’t overlook Sly Moore – Aide to the Emperor.

Introduction

Sly Moore – Aide to the Emperor, is blue, villain character with the adviser subtype, a subtype which is currently shared by four other characters but has no impact to the game… yet. With 9 Health and a point value of 9 for normal and 12 for elite, Sly Moore is a supporting character and often finds himself in three wide control deck or that “Big/Little” pairing. The die sides are 1 Focus, 2 Focus, 1 Discard, 1 Resource, a Special, and a blank and his game text reads: After you activate this character, you may re-roll one of your Sith dice. | (Special) Turn a die to a side showing a blank () and discard a random card from an opponent’s hand.

Design Notes

Sly Moore is designed to fit into more of a control-style deck, and will be most effective when paired with a Sith, which at this point are only various iterations of Maul, Vader, Dooku, and Palpatine.

If you want to ignore her Sith support and focus only on the other aspects of the card, you may be looking at a great character to throw in a Villain mill deck. Two focus sides can help your side of the board while the special allows for both the blanking of a die and discarding a card from opponent’s hand. Unless your opponent has an answer with inherent card abilities, they will be forced to deplete their own resources and cards in order to fix that die or they will be forced to ignore it.

Artwork/Lore

During the early reign of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, Sly Moore was often seen with the Chancellor opposite of Mas Amedda. Very little is known about this Umbaran female, but it is clear that she was aware of Palpatine dual role as both the Chancellor and Darth Sidious. Even though she was a politician… She had strong ties to Palpatine’s evil schemes, hence her Sith support in her card design.

Things to Consider

When used as a tank support, you need to be sure that your opponent is running low on mitigation before fixing your die. Interesting pairings to make full use of this Sith ability include Dooku from Way of the Force, and Palpatine from Convergence, both of which are potential two character four dice starts.

When your tank is a Sith, never be afraid to reroll a Sith die, especially if Sly is showing a focus. Playing Sly elite will allow for focus chaining, much in the same way Snoke’s dice are often used.

Smoke is often used to enable rapid resource generation and may be looked at as the better support character between the two, yet Sly does have a potential to provide more control than Snoke does. While Snoke may be a better choice if point costs allow it, in a situation where you need a lower costed blue character, Sly might fit right in.
