Me, Myself, and Mill: Rivals Edition

So You Want to Be a Mill Player?

You are in luck! Welcome to an article geared at Mill players. No more do you have to read over articles that deal with melee and range damage as your way to victory. The most challenging way to win in this game is by Milling your opponent into submission. So come join me on this journey to find out what cards in Rivals will be best to add to your deck, whether you are playing Hero or Villain.

Card list:

Bespin Wing Guard (RV18)

As a Mill player one of the most challenging parts of this game is hand disruption. Adding this card to your deck can significantly assist in that. The only true downside of this is that your opponent can choose the card discarded. I am also not a fan of paying 1 resource to do this but you have to pay to play. Dropping this card on the field at any point of the game is quite disruptive. Never a bad play.

Hidden Motive (RV5)

This card has potential, especially if you play it situationally. If your opponent has many die sides showing melee, ranged, or even specials; this event can make your life easier. For 0 cost it won’t hurt the bank too much. In Mill decks your resources are very important. Needing to save your money for certain cards in your hand is extremely important. This won’t affect that and can net some good in return.

Fight Back (RV12)

The ability to remove damage is so key if you are a Mill player. This card allows you to pay 1 resource and remove one of your dice to eliminate a damage threat. I feel it isn’t the strongest card available but if you are starting off in the Trilogy Format, you should at least look at this card. The secret to winning as a Mill player is to survive. A character may be defeated but all you have to do is hold out a little bit longer. This card meets that criteria.

Targeting Computer (RV7)

The cost is cheap and the ability to manipulate a support or upgrade can swing a round in your favor. I know that every time I drew this card while playing a Limited Format game I was never disappointed. It will be played. Just know that this is an option as you may be building up your card base. I haven’t talked much about the art on cards but I do like this one. It is fun and feels very Tron-like.

Lobot – Cyborg Aide (RV2)

I really, really like Lobot. If you control the Battlefield, he has Guardian. Very important if you are looking to keep people alive. Also, his Special side can make your dice powerful. Let’s say you have a Rieekan (E24) die in play. You could possibly Focus up to 4 dice. Padme (AW48) has 1 Discard side and all of a sudden she discards 3 cards from your hand. As a Mill player the most important thing is finding ways to discard cards from their hand and deck. Lobot can help work some of that magic your way. If building a Mill team and you lack some characters, Lobot should be given a look.

Final Thoughts

The beauty of Mill decks is that they are challenging to play and play against. A Mill deck does not have to have all the expensive toys that aggro decks have. Playing Mill is also a mind game. The ability to consistently interact with your opponent’s dice and cards gets to them. Some opponents even begin pitching cards to help their rolls. That’s one of the ways to help your cause. Keep in mind that the cards above would be a good start if you have access to Rivals. Future articles I will discuss the other cards in sets that could make an impact on your Mill deck. Please feel free to let me know what card(s) you agree or disagree with. Perhaps there is another card in Rivals that is better. I appreciate any feedback! Thank you again for taking the time to join me on this journey of what Rivals can do as you explore the exciting world of Mill.
