Card Dissection: Maz’s Castle (SR155) – She Can Get What You Need

How many times have you chosen a certain battlefield and just felt a little empty inside when you claim and the effect does little to help? Times are changing, and Maz’s Castle (SR155) just opened up a whole new way to make your life easier.

One of the most underrated or under-appreciated aspects of this game deals with choosing a battlefield. I have played countless games with about a handful of battlefields and I have never felt one was light years ahead of the others, until now.

Perhaps it’s the control player in me dying to find a battlefield that will net me any type of advantage. In my personal opinion, this is the best one Star Wars: Destiny has released thus far and I will explain why.

Claim

If you have played any TCGs besides this one, you know that card advantage equals higher probability for winning. This battlefield reads: Claim – Draw 2 cards. Place any number of cards from your hand on the bottom of your deck (in any order).”

That is correct. You draw 2 cards and filter others in your hand. It could be the cards you just drew, or dead cards in your hand that you can’t use. You can place any number of cards back into your deck. This just blows my mind. Not only do you get to draw cards, but you get to reset your hand and set it up later.

Card advantage and resource management is a recipe for winning in this game, and using this battlefield will more than likely aid you to a win.

Deck Options

I honestly believe this works well with our new Galactic Emperor Palpatine (SR11).  You are more than likely to use your actions up first, running the Elite version of this character, and with Force Speed (SR55) now a card to be reckoned, with I expect this battlefield to shine.

Any aggro deck that comes out the gate swinging fast and early can use this battlefield to full effect. Aggressive decks win because they apply pressure relentlessly. Drawing more cards each turn will ensure that you do that.

I don’t see this helping too many 3-4 character decks. Basically, the more actions you take a turn using Ambush, Rey’s (AW38) ability, or anything else along that line will give you a higher probability of claiming this battlefield.

It is too early to tell what decks this will benefit, with spoilers still coming out and some Spirit of Rebellion characters not fully revealed. I don’t think this works with mill decks, mid-range decks, or 3+ character decks. I could be wrong, but I see this heavily favoring 1-2 character decks the most.

Final Thoughts

I think this is the best battlefield in the game currently. Card advantage and filtering is such an amazing combo that, in the right deck, expect this to just pay you back in spades. I can’t wait to use this battlefield. The upside is too incredible to overlook. If you see this being played against you, expect your opponent to be playing fast. Remember that you can filter any cards in your hand and not just the ones you drew. Maximize your hand value versus the board. Filter what can’t help you now. Put cards into your hand that will. I just love this. Did I say that already?

Thanks for taking the time to read along. Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think. Am I way off? Did I nail it? Let me know!
