Sith Holocron (AW16) is a card that has gotten a lot of attention since it was revealed. However, for those who have not been seeped into the expanded lore of Star Wars, you may be wondering, what is a Sith Holocron? Lets take a moment to explore this item’s Star Wars history and its application in Star Wars: Destiny.
The idea of Holocrons, both Jedi and Sith, have been around in the extended Star Wars universe for years. However, the Sith Holocron has only recently showed up in Star Wars canon in Star Wars Rebels. We have seen Jedi Holocrons in the canon through The Clone Wars and Marvel’s Star Wars, but the Sith Holocron is relatively new.
Ezra located the Sith Holocron on Malachor, at an ancient Sith Temple. He used the Sith Holocron to learn skills that he did not and could not learn from Kanan. Skills that were tapping into the Dark Side of the Force. The ability to manipulate a persons mind, advanced control of force levitation and force throw.
The Sith Holocron is a tool of forbidden knowledge. That is reflected in it’s card, the ability to teach force skills to anyone who holds it. Only those who wield the power of the dark side (i.e. the Villains) are able to harness it’s power. Of course, it comes at a cost, and you must pay to utilize these learned skills quickly, but to sometimes devastating effect to your opponent.
So for those who wondered what this item is because you have not seen it in a Star Wars film, hopefully this little primer will inspire you to look to its origins. While, the Sith Holocron has only been seen in Star Wars Rebels, I would be surprised if it does not start to appear in more places.
