Destiny on a Budget – Boba Fett

We are back again for another round of Destiny on a Budget.  Our goal is to provide you with a deck list that you can assemble for less than the price of 1 card that many people put in their decks.  Today we take a look at the Boba Fett starter set.  All cards in this deck list can be acquired for around $30 by purchasing a Boba Fett starter set and some affordable singles.

Approach

You can find countless articles written about competitive deck lists; when you look at deck list websites, they are full of decks using multiple cards costing more than $25 each.  This article is directed to the people who want to play the game, build a fun deck, but not break the bank.  The purpose of these Destiny on a Budget articles is NOT to claim that players can take this list and be competitive with the tournament winning lists out there.  The intent is to give players a deck that is playable, enjoyable, and captures the feel of Star Wars: Destiny.

Prices were determined using The Chance Cube’s Price Watch for rares and Miniature Market for uncommons/commons.  Try this deck out, build on it as you open more booster packs, have fun!

Deck List

This deck list focuses on a build centered around Boba Fett – Deadly Mercenary (LG19).  An image of the list is provided below, and you can find a link to it here. Boba Fett is

one of the most beloved characters in all of Star Wars.  This deck will allow you to play as one of your favorite characters.

The First Order Stormtroopers (AW2) are here to provide some great support for Boba Fett.  The Best Defense (AW75) severely disrupts your opponent’s turn while keeping your primary character alive.

The LL-30 Blaster Pistol (EW22) is a key to the deck.  Since Boba Fett only has one side showing ranged damage, you may find yourself in a situation where you have ranged modifiers, but no base damage side to resolve them with.  The LL-30 can save you in those scenarios.  You will want to mulligan heavily to try to get a copy of the LL-30 Blaster Pistol in your opening hand.

Fast and merciless is the name of the game with yellow/red villain decks.  Many weapons have either ambush or redeploy to help you speed the game up, and to have a continued threat even after your opponents take down one of your characters.  Use Tactical Mastery (AW74, TP15) to activate a character and resolve damage before your opponent can respond.  Use Truce (EW142) to gain the resource needed and deal surprise damage when your opponent thought he/she was safe for a turn.  Overwrite your non-redeploy weapons with the F-11D Rifle (AW8) or the LL-30 Blaster Pistol before your character(s) die in order to save yourself much needed resources.

On the Hunt (AW26), Hidden Blaster (LG72), and First Order TIE Fighter (AW6) will help you deal with all of the shields that your opponents accumulate.  Add weapons, play more weapons, and keep upgrading your characters with more weapons until you have too many dice for your opponents to deal with.

Replacements

This deck list will get you playing the game at an affordable price.  When you open booster packs, you will start to open those awesome legendary cards that you have been hoping to see.   Below are a few suggestions of cards that would be great to include in this deck as you open them, as well as which set you will find each card.

  • Holdout Blaster (AW63)
  • X-8 Night Sniper (EW55)
  • Kallus’ Bo-Rifle (LG17)
  • Z6 Riot Control Baton (SR8)

We want to hear from you!  Which deck have you built in Star Wars: Destiny that is your favorite?  If you are an experienced deck builder, what advice do you have for those new to the game?
