Ongoing eCad Bane/ePhasma Part 1

After posting a poll in our hangout, the winning deck for me to run and do a blog about was none other than Cad Bane/Phasma.

After Sabine (EW40) and Poe (TP25) were first in the polls for a couple of days, I thought I’d need to design one around them, but I was wrong when people then voted for this pairing.

So the plan is to run this deck into the ground until I either am sick of running it, or you the people are tired of hearing me talk about it!

The Matchup

So out of the gate, we obviously have a good match of dice as both Cad (EW18) and the new Phasma (TP2) add up to an even 30 points. Cad has an interesting die; it reminds me a bit of Han Solo’s (AW46) dice sides but with Discard instead of Disrupt. I would have preferred a second resource symbol instead of the shield; but otherwise I’m quite impressed with his sides.

Phasma is just plain and simple bonkers for 13 points for an Elite. She has three damage sides, Resource, and Focus. Sure, I’ll take that for just 13 points!

For the current build for today’s event, I went with a slight modified version from a version that placed in the top 8 in Australia recently.

Week 1 Pairings

Round 1 was against a eK2SO (EW26)/Kanan (EW33)

I win the battlefield and know I need to go after K2 first. I am able to keep a steady pace of upgrades on Cad, being able to Ambush Cheat a steady damage ramp on him. I had enough removal and an early The Best Defense (AW75) to keep the heat off of Cad. My Phasma went down first, but the next turn I had a fully loaded Cad and replaced into another ambush to kill his K2, my opponent did activate K2 a second time, so he had already done his thing, but it wasn’t enough for an untouched Cad loaded up.

Round 2 was against eKylo (TP1)/eFN99 (SR2)

We both have the same BF; I win and take shields, putting them on Phasma as she LOVES to hurt herself to take away dice (The Best Defense). I opened with an upgrade on Cad and roll small damage. My opponent opens with Cross Guard Saber (TP7) on Kylo pings Cad then rolls in.. 3 resource sides!

We both are amazed at this and he then gets 3 resource to get out a Baton (SR8) on 99 and does his 99 thing to exchange some damage back and forth. So far this deck feels pretty good and consistent going against Kylo as I have a good number of Red, Yellow and Gray cards.

When he wasn’t able to kill Phasma and she had 1 health left was when he got the color right and killed her, really I figured she was dead already but I wanted to use Logistics (AW142) that was in my hand. I finished off 99 for the first action before he killed off Phasma so it was a good play. The difference was now his Kylo had a new Baton to use.

I still had quite a few removal tricks up my sleeve and was able to get Kylo while he was needing 5 damage to finish me. Very doable if he’d hit the color choice!

Round 3 was eThrawn (EW4)/eUnkar (SR21)

I had yet to play against this deck with any of my matches since the release of EaW, but I have read the reports of how it works and I’ve even talked with the guy I’m playing about his version and what he uses. He’s running the Buyout/Crimelord version of the deck. He wins the dice and I don’t get my wonderful BF.

Round one, he’s able to mitigate all of my damage dice as well as get an imperial inspection in the board. I don’t bother playing upgrades. Round 2 rinse and repeat and he gets his SECOND imperial inspection. He’s now also discarded 2 card with Thrawn and forced me to use The Best Defense or continue to pass. He rolls in Thrawns dice and I Best Defense those just because I can then finally do something else. He mitigates more of my damage on the nest rounds as well as gets a good lead of resources.

I’m able to get a good amount of resources, 6, and able to get out Phasma’s Blaster (TP4) on Cad as well as two X-8 (EW55) after getting more resources with Phasma. He still has the inspections out but I take the risk and know the buyout is soon.

I was able to draw 16 cards before he bought out the remaining 14, I had 5 cards in hand and Thrawn was down but it was far from over as I needed to do 11 damage to Unkar because he had a shield. I was able to get six damage and had a Special showing on Phasma, but he claimed to heal one so the special would only do 2 instead of three. I had two cards left in my hand, zero in my deck but had four dice, one showing a special and just needed 2 damage to hit so I could do the special. Pitched the first card and 2 natural and 2 modified! Took the win and beat the beast!

With only having three games under the belt with this deck list, I don’t feel I have enough information to go on for how well the current version would be overall. While I did win against ThrawnKar, it was a hard game and I feel having a copy of Fair Trade would have really sealed the deal.

In my next version I’m also going to include the new Yellow 3-cost weapon Mortargun.

See you on the flip side as we continue to tackle this beast of Cad/Phasma!!

  1. This is my current favorite deck as well! My build is a bit different , but I would love to compare them.

    1. You bet sir! Anytime you want to compare notes I’m a great little deck, I’ve modified it since this has been published, added in fair trade and the Mortar gun for the decks that are using Imperial Inspection.

I haven’t had a chance to test it yet, played a new Han Rey last week and it was bonkers!!

  2. I have a slightly different build to this deck that has went 7-1 in tournament play so far. The volume of damage that can be dealt is crazy!
