Celebration Recap: Day 1

Star Wars Celebration has kicked off its four day festivities in Orlando, Florida in a BIG way. There were plenty of surprises, plenty of things to see and do, and plenty of people playing Star Wars: Destiny.

General Event Experiences

The event kicked off with a panel featuring the man himself, George Lucas, celebrating 40 years of Star Wars.  Also gracing the stage during this panel: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Ian McDiarmid, and Hayden Christianson.  There was also a surprise at the end, a tribute to Carrie Fisher punctuated by a performance by the Orlando Philharmonic conducted by the maestro himself, John Williams.

I also attended a panel featuring Pablo Hildago and Dave Filoni discussing the animated origins of some of the beloved characters and ships from Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars, as well as their development into fully photorealistic models for Rogue One.

I was also very excited to watch our friends Coffee with Kenobi do their live Podcast. If you listen to the show, you will hear me chat a bit of Star Wars canon!

Star Wars: Destiny

Fantasy Flight Games is here in a big way, showcasing two of their best selling Star Wars games: X-Wing and Star Wars: Destiny. They have two locations, one on the main show floor, and one playspace in one of the conference rooms. On the main show floor, they are doing demonstrations of both Star Wars: Destiny and X-Wing. If you play a demo game of Destiny, you receive full art cards of Spirit of Rebellion Jyn Erso (SR44) and Director Krennic (SR3).

I know they hold the X-Wing Coruscant invitational here, but also in their conference room play area, they have free play of both X-Wing and Destiny, as well as other Star Wars games in their library. I am hoping to get a few games in today between panels.

Getting Ready for Day 2

Day two is now upon us, and excitement about information on The Last Jedi is bustling through the fans. Also today, Mark Hamill is doing a tribute to Carrie Fisher, and there is going to be a panel on the Heroines of Star Wars featuring a preview of their new, upcoming animation project.
