Destiny Origins: Who is Jango Fett?

Of all the character cards available in Star Wars: Destiny, Jango Fett (AW21) is one that features in many successful decks, including the popular pairing with General Veers (AW4). Just who is this armour-clad warrior that seems to be so popular in the meta right now?

Introduction

Older Star Wars fans will certainly be familiar with the name Fett, having been introduced to bounty hunter Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back. When the dark years ended and Star Wars returned with the prequel trilogy, a new Fett was introduced in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. Bounty hunter Zam Wessell is captured on Coruscant after a failed assassination attempt on Padmé Amidala. As Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are about to discover her employer, she is killed and Jango Fett is glimpsed fleeing the scene.

Father of the Clones

As the Jedi conduct an investigation, they discover a connection to the planet Kamino. Obi-Wan investigates further after he finds that the existence of Kamino has been purged from the Jedi Temple archives. When Obi-Wan meets the cloners on Kamino, he discovers a clone army had been ordered a decade previously by Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas. He is then introduced to Jango Fett and his “son” Boba. Jango at the time is a renowned bounty hunter and warrior. Brought up himself by the legendary warriors, the Mandalorians, his skills and temperament were the ideal base for the clone army.

Jango vs. Obi-Wan

With Obi-Wan suspicious, Jango hides his distinctive armour, but as he attempts to flee Kamino with Boba aboard Slave I, he and Obi-Wan clash. The pair have a short, ferocious battle. Jango employs every trick at his disposal, ultimately escaping thanks to Boba’s intervention from the cockpit of Slave IObi-Wan manages to attach a homing beacon and, after reporting back to the Jedi Council, sets off in pursuit.

The chase leads him to Geonosis, where Obi-Wan again tussles with Jango in an asteroid field. Jango demonstrates his fearlessness and skill once more, almost killing the Jedi. Jango lands on the planet thinking he has destroyed Obi-Wan’s ship. Obi-Wan contacts Padmé and Anakin, and ultimately the three of them end up captured by the Geonosians. They find themselves in a Geonosian arena facing death at the fangs and claws of three fearsome creatures.

Battle of Geonosis

After escaping, a Jedi force arrives with the clone army to rescue them and destroy the Separatist droid factories on Geonosis. Seeing the Jedi, Jango Fett enters the fray and targets Mace Windu. During the battle, one of the creatures charges and tramples him. Killing it, he turns to find Windu attacking and attempts to get out of range, but discovers his jetpack has been damaged. Before he can react, Windu decapitates him, much to the horror of the watching Boba. Check back tomorrow for a look at Jango Fett’s card dissection and how you can fit him in your deck.
