Star Wars: Destiny Panel at NOVA Open

For many of us, it feels like we’ve been playing Star Wars: Destiny forever, when in actuality, the game has only been around about nine months. That brief time period was discussed in a panel held at the NOVA Open, and The Chance Cube was there to listen in. The panel consisted of the winner of the U.S. national tournament, Nick Wilson, and the runner-up, Matt Schmaltz; content providers, Rick from The Knights of Ren, and our own Ruben Sanchez; and one of the designers of Star Wars: Destiny, Jeremy Zwirn from Fantasy Flight Games. Zach Bunn of Team Covenant acted as moderator, asking for responses from the panel members before allowing a few questions from the audience.

The State of the Game

Everyone weighed in on a variety of topics, including their current favorite cards from the game, as well as the characters they’d like to see as cards in the future (in case you were wondering, there was a big push for a Darth Maul character card). Several panel members had also seen/played the new two-player starter that came out on Force Friday. They commented on the set’s balance, which makes it a great tool for teaching the game, as well as the excellent artwork. The panel members were also liberal with their advice to other players, encouraging everyone to play as much as they can at any level.

Of course, nearly everyone in the room was waiting to hear from Jeremy Zwirn, hoping for Empire at War spoilers or any hints regarding an FN-2199 (SR2) errata. While Jeremy was tight-lipped about EaW, he did state that he was unhappy with the current metagame. He said that they have issued an errata in the past, and that they are looking at possible solutions to the current metagame. While Jeremy’s answer doesn’t tell us what we desperately want to know, if The Chance Cube hears anything, we’ll be sure to let you know first!
