Product Review: 3D Premium Destiny Tokens (DeckedOut3D)

With so many acrylic options on the market, I haven’t had much time to consider the various creative 3D printed designs that are also available. So while I tend to prefer acrylic tokens, I was excited to get a chance to review the 3D Premium Destiny Token Set by DeckedOut3D. So how do they stack up against the competition? Let’s find out!

Appearance (3.5 /5.0)

First, let me admit that my own personal aesthetic preference is for acrylic tokens. I think they look a bit sleeker than 3D printed ones. However, that said, the 3D Premium Destiny Tokens from DeckedOut3D have a nice design. I certainly appreciate that they kept a recognizable design that is closely similar to the cardboard tokens found in the core set. This importantly makes them easily recognizable to your opponents. Additionally, they’re printed in nice, bright colors that make them really stand out, even against the busiest of mats. Unfortunately, these tokens do have the typical rough details that you would normally associate with 3D printed tokens, and one side of the tokens is obviously more detailed than the other. They definitely look nicer from a distance than up close. Of course, “from a distance” is typically how you view tokens anyway, so that may not be a problem for many players.

Utility (4.5/5.0)

There’s no arguing that these tokens are highly utilitarian. What they sacrifice in aesthetic value relative to acrylic tokens, they make up for somewhat in utility. These tokens are easily differentiated, identifiable, and visible on any play surface. The colors are pleasantly bright and the designs are highly reminiscent of the starter set tokens. My only qualm is with the damage tokens. The numerical values on them aren’t necessarily as clear as I would like, but they are printed in different colors and sizes, so this shouldn’t make a terribly large impact on their use during game play.

Durability (4.0/5.0)

While I don’t think that these tokens would be easily damaged, the thinly printed parts on the shield tokens do worry me a bit because they seem that they could break if treated less than gently. That said, I did not personally have any issues with their durability, and they are certainly more scratch resistant than acrylic tokens would be.

Cost (3.0/5.0)

A full set of 27 tokens will cost you $15, which seems like a fair price for such a robust token set. Unfortunately, there are a lot of other token sets on the market and many more attractive acrylic options are priced very similarly. While I think I could strongly recommend these as an economy token set, pricing them as high as nicer sets undercuts that potential selling point.

Overall Rating: 3.5 /5.0

Final Thoughts

While I like the tokens in this set well enough, I did find them to be somewhat less aesthetically pleasing than most other acrylic token sets while still costing approximately the same price. That said, if you are in the market for a very utilitarian token set and have a preference for the 3D printed designs offered by these tokens, then I think you’ll find yourself quite happy with them. Head on over to DeckedOut3D on Etsy and check them out!
