Card Dissection: Vibroknucklers (SR25)

Hello, and welcome to another Card Dissection! Today we’ll be looking at a quiet and elegant beauty of a weapon, which surprisingly, may be of interest not only for people that look for boosting their offensive capabilities. Those folks that like to manipulate their opponents cards will also find here something for them. Let’s take a closer look at those fancy Vibroknucklers!

Overview

Vibroknucklers (SR25) is a Yellow Villain Upgrade-Weapon, non-unique, which cost 3 resources to field. Its die sides are following: 2x 1-melee damage, 2-melee damage, 1 discard, 2 discard, and a blank. It has keyword Ambush and also the following ability: “Before resolving this die, you may spend 1 resource to increase its value by 1. Art is done by Arden Beckwith.

Die rundown

One thing that is quite prominent about this die is consistency. No modified sides, no 3 or 4 different symbols; half of the die is pure damage and another 1/3 helps with discarding cards. In a game like Star Wars: Destiny, where there are basically two types of RNG (card draw and dice), any amount of consistency is greatly welcomed. We also have two sides that have value of 2. Especially the 2-value discard side, I see as an interesting thing to consider in every Yellow Villain mill deck. And it gets even better when we look at the ability.

Ability

The additional ability lets us increase the value of die side we rolled by one for the cost of 1 resource. This seems quiet costly, but as it is optional, it seems really good. As Yellow decks tend to have more resources than Blue or Red, it’ll probably not be a problem for them to sometimes spend an additional resource for this effect. In situations when you roll one of the 2-value sides, especially the discard side, it becomes really tempting. Losing 3 cards from your hand just from the one die is no joke. In other situations, when you are 1 or 2 damage off from winning a game and you have plenty of resources, Vibroknucklers seems like a great way to finish the job.

Usage

We can see that our weapon is great at getting the job done and can find many uses in both heavy melee decks and also, of course, mill decks. It gives a new way of milling your opponent down, when also helping with providing the damage sometimes lacking in those kinds of decks. Having 2 of those combined with Unkar Plutt (SR21) or Jabba the Hutt (AW20) looks like a way to go now. We could see that for example in European Championship winner’s deck, featuring Unkar Plutt, FN-2199 (SR2), and First Order Stormtrooper (AW2). That is probably an ideal deck to containing our precious knuckles. Other than mill, we could see usage in some melee decks, that just want some additional control (discard sides) and consistent, guaranteed damage. Maybe, for example, Vader/Raider deck would welcome these with open hands. Who knows 🙂

Conclusion

Overall, Vibroknucklers are great addition to the game. For sure they will find a usage and players that’ll really appreciate having them on their side. There are many uses for them, in different kinds of decks. I think they are here to stay for a long time and will always find their place. I’m personally for sure going to try to do some fancy stuff with them.

Thank you for reading, I hope this article was of some help to you. 🙂 I see you another time soon and for now, remember to never leave your Destiny to chance! And may the Force be with you all!
