Deck Analysis: Sister Tusken, oh the time has come

Welcome my fellow gamer girls and guys to an Analysis on a deck I’ve had some success with running lately. I welcome you to “Sister Tusken, oh the time has come!” First, I’ll go over cards and then go onto the strategy of the deck and suggestions on making some changes for your local scene if you have a different meta.

The battlefield is one thing that depending on your options, you could easily change out for something different. This deck can work well with some of the top tier of options for the Battlefield choices, I prefer the Emperor’s Throne Room (AW167) for the fact that it balances well with a ton of the upgrade cards in the game, as well as Kylo himself. The other options are Imperial Armory (AW169) to get those upgrades out there even that much faster.

I went with Kylo, Nightsister, and Tusken as after running the deck as pure blue, it seemed to need just a little something else extra to take it over the top. Having the ability to include more control card like Electroshock (AW159) and He Doesn’t Like You (AW92) are great for their removal effects. While I didn’t put in Backup Muscle (AW99), it can easily be put in for either Power of the Dark Side (AW89) or It Binds All Things (AW 150).

We have a standard array of blue upgrade cards in the deck, starting off with the ever popular Sith Holocron (AW16) to get some of those upgrades on our Tusken Raider (AW22) that would be otherwise dead cards to the Tusken. We have the normal array of other blue upgrades standard to the Sith Holocron’s arsenal, we’re running 2 of everything that is out Upgrade wise except Force Training (AW 58), this will allow us a maximum potential for The Power of the Force (AW148). We can regularly get 4-5 upgrades easily when we can use this card as a hidden “boost” to a single side of melee or ranged damage to turn the battle when our opponents aren’t expecting us to hit them with a burst like that.

I consider the other event cards to be great for controlling the field to our advantage. Dice removals with He Doesn’t Like You (AW97) and Electroshock (AW159) will help keep the opponent on their toes are you remove some of the dice they have waiting to cause you pain. The Use the Force (AW149) proves to be an offensive as well as a defensive card to be used however your game is going. I like using it more for defense to turn a die to something that won’t hurt me at the time, but if your opponent claims early and you can combo it with The Power of the Force, you can really turn the tide in your favor. If you have enough upgrades out, you can even make gaining resources or discarding their hand a thing with this card.

With the main deck out of the way I’m going to go into some cards that might not be “meta” at first but can really turn the tide. Power of the Dark Side (AW89) has been a personal favorite of mine since I first saw it, and Sith Holocron together, with the sides of the Holocron having 2 blanks, it makes re-rolling that die that much sweeter. You could swap out this card for something else, but this deck runs quite a few dice upgrades and I like having the option to re roll a die, and having the potential to deal damage if it rolls the blanks.

It Binds All Things (AW150) is a card that is making a splash in certain decks, and this is one that it can really shine with all the upgrades in it. It’s not a required card, especially if you get Sith Holocron, but just like anything good, it has a die and die can be removed, or manipulated by your opponent causing you to lose that special. Hence why I prefer to have this card as a backup to get the upgrades into play much easier.

Playing the Deck:

Your mulligan condition is as follows: Did you pull Holocron or It Binds All Things? No? Pitch all five back and hope for them. You’re really looking to get a copy of Holocron and or It Binds All Things so you can really start putting out those upgrades. Use your characters one at a time at first, don’t worry about dealing as much damage at first, worry about getting the upgrades down on the board. Put the Holocron onto the Tusken first, getting them either Force Throw (AW57) or Mind Probe (AW60). You can also just start loading him up with anything else you might pull, but the Tusken shines with having Throw or Probe on him for the ability to catch your opponent off guard with your discard to resolve the die. Save the Hidden in Shadow (AW90) for the Nightsister, she really loves being able to re roll a die for not taking any damage to her small health pool. Your first target will most likely be Kylo, so I tend to just equip him with the Lightsabers (AW59) and Immobilize (AW14). You can also have some fun times with equipping Kylo with Force Choke (AW13) and his own Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber (AW15), I only like running one of his saber in the deck as it doesn’t have redeploy on it to transfer it around to your teammates.

Cards I didn’t add and why:

No Mercy (AW86) – I’ve had a VERY hard time justifying this card, as I’m always either getting it drawn with too few cards in my hand, or too few resources. I know it’s a “FINISHER” card, but since we are relying on The Power of the Force to do damage, I see it not needed at all.

Backup Muscle (AW99) – This is a hard choice for not running it, I could easily take out POTD or IBAT and replace those with BM, but I think the deck slows down a bit. I’ve even thought about taking away one POTD and IBAT just to fit in two BM, but then I go back to do I want to get a POTD on the board to re roll Sith Holocron and get it going for a possible 2 damage instead of 1? This is one of those times that I could see it being put in, but personal preference I like POTD/IBAT more than BM.

Feel Your Anger (AW82) – While a good removal card, totally reliant on your opponents have Blanks, and while GLORIOUS when it hits, if you are unlucky, you might not get anything.

Deflect (AW145) – This was a hard one not to put in with all the Jango Veers running around, but I couldn’t seem to fit it in for all the upgrades I was going for. If you suspect you will be going up against range all day, add this in, otherwise I think the deck has enough damage output to outlast the others.

Enrage (AW81) – This is a great card, but I hate giving my opponent free damage. I also find that I’m not starving for resources as much with IBAT and Sith Holocron helping me put in upgrades.

Recently I took this deck to an 11 player tournament and went 3-1. My only loss was against a deck using Patience to mill me, and sadly he was able to get the mind probes and Force Throws before I could get enough damage out. I faced a Vader/Raider, Quigon/Rey, Jango/Jabba, and eRey, Ackbar, Hired Gun. Very good matches to say the least.

Thanks for joining me for this and if you have any comments or questions let me know.
