Destiny Origins: Who is General Veers?

General Veers (AW4) is a name I keep hearing a lot of in Star Wars: Destiny. He seems to be a card many players like teaming up with Jango Fett (AW21). Being relatively new to the game, it’s been very noticeable to me the high regard the community hold him in, but who is General Veers?

For starters, you can find Veers in The Empire Strikes Back, arguably the best movie of the entire series. As the title suggests, the Rebels have a rough time in this movie. General Veers is right in the midst of it all. Given orders directly by Darth Vader (AW10) himself, Veers leads the Imperial ground assault against Echo Base (AW166). Veers job is to locate the shield generators and destroy them, leaving the Rebels open to an aerial assault. Leading from the front, Veers is calmness personified on board his AT-AT.

Veers leads the attack force of AT-AT and AT-ST (AW5) walkers, with support from Imperial Snowtroopers. The walkers, with some casualties at the hands (or tow cables) of the Rebel Snowspeeders, soon locate the shield generators and destroy them, forcing the Rebels to evacuate and flee in their transporters, tails between their legs. Veers is the epitome of the Imperial Officer. Loyal, unflappable but unlike many of his peers, capable. No Force Choke (AW13) for him.

Where many before him have failed, Veers’ dedication and professionalism makes him successful. Both Admiral Ozzell and Captain Needa fall foul of Darth Vader through their incompetence. Not so Veers. He takes charge and gets the job done, following his orders to the letter. The only downside to The Empire Strikes Back is that we do not see General Veers again, once the Battle of Hoth is over.

General Veers (AW4)

The good General’s card brings with it some of his reliability and personality. There’s a 50% chance of landing damage, albeit one side is modified. His action is thematically very good also as you can remove his die and change a support dice to any side, so his command of the forces at his disposal comes into play. Veers and Admiral Piett have always been my favorite Imperial officers so it’s great to see Veers in such a prominent role in a lot of decks. Maybe one day we can team him up with Piett.
