Beginners Guide to Destiny Part VII: Putting it All Together

Now, after reading all six parts of my Beginners Guide, we have now come to the final article in this series.  This article will put everything talked about in previous articles into practice as I build a Hero deck.  I am building a Hero deck because those who know me know that I almost always play Villains, so this makes me think more, do more planning, and consider a different set of cards than I am normally used to.

Strategy: I want to win by dealing damage.  Not an aggro deck exactly, but one that allows me to deal consistent damage each turn and not roll and hope for burst damage.  My Heroes, Battleground, and Draw Deck will all work to accomplish this strategy.  I also wish to have some form of dice control, and, card permitting, health control.

CHARACTERS

Elite Qui-Gon Jinn (AW37)

Finn (AW45)

I have chosen Qui-Gon and Finn because they allow me to deal damage.  Finn has 3 damage sides and any weapon can be deployed on him.  He also has access to Red Villain weapons and Vehicles, which is nice, but isn’t an ability I was to use in this deck.  Qui-Gon is my main Character and I wish to take a lot of advantage of his ability to deal damage with shields.  I will use both Events and Upgrades to give him shields to deal more damage each turn.

BATTLEFIELD

Echo Base (AW166)

This Battlefield is almost a given, as I want to utilize Qui-Gon’s ability as much as possible.  Allowing me to claim the Battlefield, if Qui-Gon already has a shield, allows me to deal one final damage that turn.

UPGRADES (14)

1 Force Protection (AW39)
2 Luke Skywalkers Lightsaber (AW41)
1 One with The Force (AW42)
2 Diplomatic Immunity (AW50)
2 Force Training (AW58)
2 Lightsaber (AW59)
1 Comlink (AW61)
2 Holdout Blaster (AW63)
1 Cunning (AW65)

I chose the following Upgrades for this deck.  I went with upgrades that added shields to my Characters, which allows Qui-Gon to deal more damage each round.  While yes, there are only 6 actual weapons in this deck, the Upgrade – Ability card are where this deck shines.  Remember, its not just about putting shields on Qui-Gon for his ability, its about putting them on both him and Finn to help keep them alive longer.

SUPPORTS (2)

2 Black Market (AW64)

This card goes great with this deck as it allow me to draw and play upgrades cheaper, and goes with my strategy by having a 2 Focus and a 2 Shield side to its die.

EVENTS (14)

2 Defensive Stance (AW115)
2 Riposte (AW121)
2 Deflect (AW145)
2 Use The Force (AW149)
2 Take Cover (AW157)
2 Electroshock (AW159)
2 Unpredictable (AW162)

These events help me by adding shields with Defensive Stance and Take Cover.  Unpredictable, Electroshock, Use The Force, give me some form of die control.  Remember, you can utilize Use The Force on either one of your die or your opponents die.  Riposte and Deflect allow me to deal more potential damage each turn.

Conclusions: So, we have a very simple deck built up that is designed to take total advantage of Qui-Gon’s ability as much as possible.  Finn is there because he has three sides of his die that show damage, and that he can utilize Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber.  Deal as much damage to your opponent directly with Ranged and Melee damage, and use your shields to keep your Characters alive as long as possible.  Will it (can it) work?  Most certainly.
