Director Krennic (SR3) and Death Troopers (SR1) : See How I Roll

Director Krennic (SR3) is one of the new Legendary Characters in the upcoming Spirit of Rebellion expansion, which is due to be release in the 2nd quarter of 2017.  Director Krennic has a very nice die, with 2 Damage, 2 Disrupt, and 2 Discard, along with a focus and the standard resource.  His card ability, while dependent on controlling the battlefield, allows him to bring in a die from outside the game to roll into the dice pool.  He does a little bit of everything, and has a respectable 12 health.  For a cost of 15/19 that is a great package.  Thankfully he is costed at a point where he doesn’t work with Darth Vader (AW10) to stop a truly frightening build, but he does work with Jabba the Hutt (AW20) for a scary mill deck.  I can easily see decks built around him in his Elite form, as, you shouldn’t consider him being a two die card, but a two die card with a conditional third die. However, with his ability dependent on battlefield control, without ways to gain many free actions, I don’t see him run in a three character build.

Now, Death Trooper (SR1) is the die Director Kreenic can roll into play when activated and you control the battlefield.  And, boy, what a die it is.  It has four range damage side (one being a modify) and a single disrupt, use this Character and die when you  want to pump out a ton of damage quickly.  This Character in superior in every way than the First Order Stormtrooper (AW2), but that superiority comes at a cost.  Namely, 3 more points.  But you get 3 more health, one less blank, and nothing actually costs resources to use.  And, while three of them would be a blast to play, they are almost meant to be played with an Elite Director Krennic.

Do I see these card being used with Spirit of Rebellion is released?  Absolutely.  With 8 fully spoiled card, and several card partially spoiled on a poster showing Maz, R2-D2, and Old Ben, there is a lot of new and exciting options coming up.  These two cards perpetuate the high burst damage potential that General Veers (AW4) and General Grievous (AW3) provide.  New, yes, exciting, surely, but, unfortunately, you aren’t teaching Red new tricks, and that is their downfall.
