“Strike Teams” – An Easy Multiplayer Variant for 4 Players

If you are interested in experimenting with some non-official multiplayer variant rules for Star Wars: Destiny, please enjoy this first part in a series of multiplayer variant rules: “Strike Teams,” an easy multiplayer variant for four players.

Strike Teams

Players: 4

Special Rules for Deck Construction: Players are split into two teams of two. Each team’s players must play the same side – hero or villain. Each player constructs a deck and team following the normal rules outlined in Part 4 of the Star Wars: Destiny Rules Reference (including 30 cards, 30 points worth of characters, and 1 battlefield). All normal deck building restrictions apply. Additionally, no more than one copy of a unique character can be on each team.

Special Components Needed: None

Setup: Follow the normal rules for setting up the game. Team members should sit opposite one another.

Goal: Defeat all of the characters on the opposing team.

Special Rules: Each round, the player who controls the battlefield takes the first turn. Play then proceeds clockwise as normal so that teams alternate taking actions. Once all of a player’s characters are defeated, that player discards any upgrades in play along with all remaining cards in their hand but remains in the game. During their turn, they may continue to take one action – either activating any supports that they still have in the field or resolving any dice associated with those supports. They may not claim the battlefield. Resources gained from supports are given to their teammate. Shields gained from supports may be distributed to their teammate’s characters. The active player chooses all targets for effects of Support cards and dice. Support cards and dice that typically only target the controller’s other dice (such as focus) can instead be used to target their teammate’s dice. Otherwise, players follow the normal Free-For-All rules for Multiplayer games found in Part 9 of the Star Wars: Destiny Rules Reference.

Winning the Game: A team wins the game when either:

All characters on the opposing team are defeated; or

Both players on the opposing team have no cards remaining in their hand or discard pile at the beginning of the Upkeep Phase. If no players have cards in their hands or decks at the beginning of the Upkeep Phase, then the team with possession of the battlefield wins.
