Rogue One and Star Wars: Destiny

Please note that the following article contains minor spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

So first things first, Rogue One was a very good movie. It had the legs to stand alone as an entry into the Star Wars universe.  Not only did it have something for viewers who weren’t Star Wars fans, but it was slammed full of amazing references that die hard fans are sure to pick up on. My personal favorite was when they are walking out to the hanger and Captain Syndulla gets paged; I’m all for Star Wars: Rebel references! My one issue with the film is oddly minor but vastly important to the Star Wars mythos….. why did not a single Bothan die during the entire movie!! It was a large point of emphasis that Mon Mothma brings out that many Bothans died to bring the Rebel Alliance the Death Star plans (yes I know this was for the Second Death Star), but I didn’t see a single one bite the dust on camera and that is all I have ever wanted.

But enough of my rambling about plot holes, let’s get to the reason everyone is here, Star Wars: Destiny and what Rogue One means for it. Sadly I don’t have any inside information about a new set; however, I can speculate on what could be from this movie. There are a plethora of new Characters, Vehicles, and Locations that could easily be represented in the game. You have an entire expansion worth of new Hero cards just from the leading characters in the movie, add to that the large role that the U-wing had and I see a new Support card just begging to be made. Let’s not forget the weapons that we could have access too; I know everyone’s wants Baze’s heavy blaster to mow through waves of Stormtroopers. And speaking of the Imperial side of the equation, imagine the control aspects a Krennic card could add to the game. Villain side also has access to lots of new Vehicles, such as the array of new transports shown or the new TIE Striker.  The possibilities are endless and that is great news for fans of Star Wars: Destiny.

So as we all sit here and wait for news of what’s coming next for Star Wars: Destiny there is only one thing to be done in my opinion, go see Rogue One a few more times!
