Star Wars: Destiny – (No) Regional Tournament Support

Fantasy Flight Games Organized Play

Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) has recently sent out its Organized Play Newsletter with information on the upcoming tournament seasons.  What is missing from this news? Star Wars: Destiny.

Now, before you get too concerned, this is not terribly surprising.  The level of planning that needs to go into the national tournament program sponsored by FFG requires some expense, and they will be hesitant to invest in Star Wars: Destiny until the game has proven popular and profitable for the company.  Given the level of fan support so far for this game, I would be shocked if a tournament program is not announced in the coming weeks.  However it is unlikely that Destiny will be included in the upcoming fall season on a regional level.

For those who are not familiar, Fantasy Flight Games recently split their tournament program in two different tracks.  The May track (typically represented by Red coloring) is completely focused on Star Wars table top games (Currently: X-Wing, Imperial Assault, Armada, and Star Wars: The Card Game).  The November track focuses on some of their other popular titles.  The month designation refers to when the World Championships are held for that game.  In the case of Star Wars games, the worlds are in May, and the store level tournament season will begin right after that.

Let us hope that FFG will be supporting this game come May, if not earlier.
